Kretschmer

Design Solution:
Opened the main level up by creating a corridor looping the main floor and accessible from all rooms, including the existing enclosed staircase to the second level. This created a connection to the old Master Bedroom which was converted to a new Family Room. Renovated the Kitchen using classically modern elements such as stainless steel countertops, transparent stained birch cabinets and concrete floors. Opened up staircases between levels to the adjacent rooms - the upper stair with a picket railing characteristic of the era of the home; the basement stair with a completely open steel and wood structure. Opened up the basement replacing the ceiling with a modernist paneled system with gaps between panels to create the illusion of more space. Added a bathroom in the basement using modern materials and fixtures; used stained wood paneled walls to conceal storage; stained existing concrete floors to create a creative, modern edge.
