Design Solution:
The challenge was to take the existing architectural style and develop it into a home that would be inspired by an elegant old home one would find on the outskirts of London or Paris. This led to the use of paneled walls, Versailles patterned wood floors, vintage traditional cabinetry with oversized recessed panel doors, overhung countertops and toe kicks at the base, as well as antique commodes for vanities in the master bathroom. To employ an earthy element, the floors were constructed of antique recycled oak from France and left unfinished and oiled so that they would patina over time. The color palette was inspired by earthy, "dirty" colors and was accomplished by using complimentary tints to create complexity. These colors were mirrored in all of the upholstery and drapery fabrics and pulled from antique carpets used throughout the main rooms.
