Newell

Project:
Newell Long Beach House Project

Project Description:
5,000 sq. ft. new construction beach house

Programmatic Criteria:
Clients wanted a unique design that was respectful of the oceanfront environment, while providing for the functional and privacy needs of two or more families staying in the house at one time. A family with two small children, they felt it was important to have plenty of play spaces and whimsical aspects to promote play activity. Casualness, practicality and openness in the main areas of the home were essential to promote communication and connection. Aesthetic influences of a fortress, creating privacy from the street and openness to the oceanfront were also vitally important. The rugged weather conditions on the ocean necessitated designing a space that could withstand and be in sync with the elements of sand, light, salt, mud and rain in the winter.
