Sybase

Project:
Sybase Emeryville 'B-trium' Project

Project Description:
62,000 sq. ft. new construction

Programmatic Criteria:
Design an engineering facility for a hi-tech software company in a large warehouse space, with eighty percent open office area, twenty percent closed offices, conference center, labs, main entrance, toilet cores, coffee areas and break rooms. The main challenge of the space was that it was one floor with a long, narrow footprint. Moving people through the space efficiently was a major design challenge.

Design Concept:
Inspiration for the design came from the airport runway. The footprint of the building and its location next to a major freeway, recalled some of the same design concerns -moving people "fast," in a linear direction, on a tight budget.
